The goal horn was playing more than once for the first time this season, as the FA Euro New York (2-7-0) score three goals against the Evergreen Hammers (0-7-1) in a 3-1 victory this past Friday.
Things started out nicely for the first team, who began the game with two offside calls. Robi Sillah got things going with a gorgeous pass to the right side from Leo Folla. Pass was just too far in the 7' minute.
Just three minutes later, Seton Hall's Morten Wenaas took a shot from where he was fouled. A few centimeters outside the box. His shot proceeded to go millimeters above the net, that hit the crossbar and out of play.
The first goal of the season for Siena product Conor McGlynn came in the 21' minute. McGlynn shot a beautiful ball that landed right in front of him. The goal was unassisted.
Just 12 minutes later in the 33' minute, Robi Sillah made his presence felt, as he scored the second goal of the game, that turned out to be the game-winning goal. The ball came off of an Evergreen turnover.
The first 45' ended with FA Euro having a commanding 8-1 shots lead. "I think the preparation for this game is a little bit different seeing how we're coming off of a couple of wins in our past three games. The boys feel a little more confident." Leo Folla told I-95 Sports Network after the contest.
The 64' minute, the goal horn sounded one final time, as Sunatillo Khusanov was found all alone, on a costly mistake by the defenders from Evergreen that led to a shot very wide, but went past the Hammers' Jordan Williams.
Khusanov's night did not end as smoothly as expected, as he was caught up with an Evergreen player. He was seen walking on the sidelines, but has been listed as questionable with the lower-body injury for Monday vs. the Red Bulls.
Gianfranco Barone, who has been a mainstay with the organization, made his PDL debut in the 80' minute, as he was subbed for Oliver Hansen. No shutout was awarded as the defense of FA Euro sat back for a few minutes. A goal scored by Bernardo Majano eliminated the chance of the second shutout in three games for the first team.
Oliver Foss Hansen spoke with I-95 Sports Network after the game about how he believes the team is improving. "We are getting better day after day as a team. It reflects in the result against Evergreen [Hammers]. Solid team performance over 90 minutes, which resulted in what I think is the best game of our season. We have to keep improving and hopefully we can get a result against Red Bulls on Monday."
FA Euro now improves to 2-7-0 on the season, and also when leading at the end of 45'. They also are 2-4-0 when two or more goals are a deciding factor in the contest.
The first team is back in action on Monday, June 25th at Aviator Sports and Events Center, as FA Euro welcomes in the New York Red Bulls U23 squad for the first time this season, and the final meeting between the two (0-2-0).
