Conor McGlynn Signs for Hartford Athletic

Updated: Mar 15, 2020

Beloved USL League Two Captain Conor McGlynn has made his Path2Pro a reality, signing for USL Championship side Hartford Athletic. The Middle Village native immediately made an impression on the coaching staff for the Connecticut-based club during a two week trial period. Collegiately, Conor scored five goals and added four assists during his senior season at Siena last fall, earning Second-Team All-MAAC honors. Over the course of four years, he played in every single match and started all but one of those matches. Conor twice earned MAAC All-Academic Team honors and was named MAAC Offensive Player of the Week in September 2nd, 2019.

Conor has been a long-standing cornerstone for the USL League Two side, being a part of F.A. Euro New York since 2017. Conor's consistent, standout performances in a playmaker role would see him quickly rise through the ranks of being widely regarded as one of the club’s break-out signings. For the 2019 season, Conor was named Team Captain and led the team in most goals (5) and assists (2). He also clocked in the most time played during the previous season, recording a whopping 1053 minutes over the course of 12 matches. In total, Conor has recorded 7 goals as a center midfielder with the club, playing a total of 2761 minutes in 33 matches.

“Conor was one of those players you would be safe betting would play at the next level. It wasn’t a question of "if", it was a matter of "when,” exclaims Executive Director, Marco Balsamo. “He was a player that constantly piqued the interest of professional teams, both domestically and in Europe. He fully deserves this and I am confident that the USL Championship is the perfect platform for him to showcase his talent. He’s still very young and I believe has the potential to take the league by storm.”

“Any coach would love to work with Conor,” states USL League Two Head Coach Joe Balsamo. “He’s a player of immense quality and potential who works harder than most. Off the field, he's a terrific personality. It has been a pleasure watching him mature and improve over these past few years. We are losing a big part of the team, the heart of the midfield, and we couldn’t be happier. As we’ve reiterated in the past, the goal of F.A. Euro New York is to play our part and help place players like Conor, Leo Folla, or Seba Guenzatti, at the next level. We want to be the premier destination, the top club, that the players of tomorrow come to in order to develop, today. Conor is definitely a player that many will soon know of. The future is very bright for him.”

“Honestly, I’m over the moon knowing that all of the hard work that I’ve put in has finally paid off. I feel blessed to be given this opportunity and I’m looking to seize it. I’m so excited to get to work with this club (Hartford Athletic)," comments Conor McGlynn. "My goal as a rookie is to learn and develop as an individual both on and off the pitch so I can help my team win and improve in any way that I can. My experience with F.A. Euro New York and the coaching staff has been nothing but positive in that as a young player, they gave me the opportunity to play with and against top players at the USL2 level and I’ll always be appreciative of the work they put into myself and the club. To the younger players in the club that are coming up, if you want to achieve something, you have to work harder than everyone else to get there and even when things aren’t going your way, to always trust in yourself and the process. Forza Euro.”

All of F.A. Euro New York would like to thank Conor for his terrific contributions made at the club and wish him the best of luck on this new, exciting chapter in his now professional football career. Forza Conor!
